Visitors will be able to use Rokid Glass 2 for a unique AR + AI experience at the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City in Hangzhou starting in October. Instead of presenting a passive display, visitors can experience a new level of interaction with the Neolithic Liangzhu culture through augmented reality. Visitors are able to participate and make new connections as scenes from the past come to life within the AR glasses.

The Archeological Ruins of Liangzhu City was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 6 2019. Located in the Yangtze River Basin on the south-eastern coast of the country, the archaeological ruins of Liangzhu (about 3300–2300 BCE) reveal an early regional state in Late Neolithic China. The sacred site shows “five thousand years of Chinese civilization” with a total area of 34 square kilometers, equivalent to 4 Forbidden Cities. Visitors are able to use Rokid Glass 2 at two of the sites within the ruins: Liangzhu Museum and the Liangzhu Archaeological Site.

The Liangzhu Museum exhibits mostly jade, silk, ivory, and pottery artifacts used by Liangzhu residents. Rokid Glass 2 can highlight the artifacts’ key features through holographic images and show how it was used 5,000 years ago. At one of the AR experience points, visitors can see a hieroglyphic image of a bird come to life as it flies out of the jade.

At the Liangzhu Archeological Site, a virtual tour guide and location-based service can lead visitors to different AR experience points. Historical buildings are simulated and restored in real scale at the untouched archeological landscapes through Rokid Glass 2. Visitors can travel back in time to see how the site evolved throughout history.

“This is the first time The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City use AR technology to guide, inform, and restore historical artifacts for visitors. We want to find new ways of engaging people with our collection outside of a traditional museum setting. Rokid Glass 2 helps visitors explore new ways of interpreting the artifacts and look at its stories from a new perspective. It is an innovative method of showcasing the museum’s collection,” Liangzhu staff member tells us.
